As per the Annual Health Survey (2012-13), the Infant mortality rate in Bundi was 65 which is comparatively higher than the state of Rajasthan (55). Similarly, the under-5 mortality rate in Bundi was 85 which were more in comparison to the State.Bundi is one of the high priority districts in context of malnutrition of children in Rajasthan. As per the National Family Health Survey (IV) - 2014-15 the rate of under-5 stunting and wasting is 38.4% and 27.7 % respectively which requires a lot more attention. 8.6% severely wasted children are recorded in Bundi but in rural areas, it is slightly more in rural areas (8.9%). Data also reflects that 43.4 % of children are underweight in this district which is six percent higher than Rajasthan (36.7%). Considering these facts, with Bundi being one of the high burden districts, was chosen for ’POSHAN’ programme by the National Health Mission, Rajasthan. The status of malnutrition in Bundi demands a regular nutrition programme in Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan health department announced to launch the second phase of CMAM in January 2018. It would cover 50 blocks in 20 districts including 13 from the first phase. An estimated 16,929 SAM children will be treated under this programme. The children will be treated with a nutritional supplement at their houses for 56 days and their health improvement will be monitored for four months. “Treatment at home is twice effective than in hospitalized and CMAM has proved this. Before starting the programme it is essential to conduct training and awareness programme for village leaders/sarpanch for smooth implementation of the programme with their active participation.

With the above context a first of its kind workshop on nutrition was organized on 6th October 2017 for the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) in Bundi district of Rajasthan.
